On Oct 24th, Prof. Jan J. Weigand from the Dresden University of Technology in Germany visited the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Peking University at the invitation of Prof. Zhang. In the A717 meeting room, he delivered an engaging academic lecture for the taechers and students.
Prof. Jan J. Weigand obtained his doctoral degree from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany in 2005. His research primarily focuses on the reactivity of multiply charged and neutral main group element compounds in synthesis and sustainable applications. Additionally, he explores the recovery and recycling of rare-earth metals, as well as value-added chemicals and elements. The title of his presentation was "Blueprint for a Modern 'Sustainable' Phosphorus Chemistry," where Prof. Jan J. Weigand shared the progress he has made and the industrial achievements in the field of organophosphorus chemistry over the years. In the afternoon, Prof. Zhang hosted a small academic exchange discussion in the office with Prof. Jan J. Weigand, Prof. Wei, and some members of our lab. Prof. Wei and the members of our lab briefly introduced their current work. Prof. Jan J. Weigand expressed his appreciation for the lab's work and provided valuable suggestions. Finally, a sincere thank you to Prof. J. Weigand for his visit!
