The structure-property relationship is a lasting theme in materials science. We believe that hierarchical structure is key to understand ingfunction. Only through a proper arrangement of atoms across multiple length scales can the molecular function intrinsic in the chemical structures be transferred and amplified into a macroscopic property. However, more than often, we don’t have enough understanding of, not to mention controlling over, such a structure formation process. We are interested to find or develop “catalysts” or “catassemblers” for the assembly processes of synthetic macromolecules, much like chaperones for proteins. This process is also called “catassembly”. Through these efforts, we aim at developing structures that are otherwise inaccessible by conventional “self-assembly” processes.
